What skills or techniques did you learn during this unit? How did you apply them in your work?
I learned how to use oil paint and how to layer oil paints in this unit. Although I did my final in acrylic paint because I like the texture I get with acrylic paint better and I like the colors I can get from acrylic paint. With acrylic paint I learned how to do “wet on wet” layering and I liked the way it turned out. I also did finger painting in the piece for the ocean I was able to get a better color pay off that way and I like the way it blended with all the colors.
How did you plan and create your artwork? What do you like about your work, is it successful?
I planned my artwork by looking at some pictures from Washington,NC, which is thirty minutes from Greenville,NC. I originally wanted to paint a sunset but then I felt like it was a basic idea/concept and I wanted to do something else. That's when I found the picture I took of the river and decided to paint that mainly because of the clouds. Once I found that picture it had two focal points the bridge and the line of trees so I decided to get rid of the bridge instead of the tree like. One the I like about my work is the clouds because I was able to make them fluffy and have dimension. I also like the tree line but I'm not a huge fan of the water because it's not how I wanted it to look originally. I repainted the water multiple times and I ended up finger painting it which is how it looks now. I think my work is successful because of the textures I was able to get and the finished project looks somewhat like the picture I have.
